Tennessee, which shares its borders with eight other states in the US, is most famous for its musicians. Tennessee has produced various musical styles that range from country music to Appalachian folk songs. Legends in rock and country music like Elvis Presley, Dolly Parton and B.B.King are all from Tennessee. So, if you are a senior with a passion for music, you will find a lot to enjoy after your retirement.

Tennessee is also a natural choice for retiring because of it offers a lot of activities for everyone. If you are serious about sport, you’ll get baseball, basketball, hockey, football, motor sports, golf and equestrian events being played regularly in the state. Outdoor activities you can enjoy in Tennessee include fishing, hunting, horseback riding, cycling and camping. Agritourism is a concept Tennessee has started in a big way. You can explore the Tennessee farms, learn about farming culture and sample fresh food.

Tennessee has something for every season and the state has more than 800 annual festivals. In spring, you can attend a host of events including the Dollywood Festival of Nations and the Tennessee Iris Festival. Summer in Tennessee has warm weather and long days, and there is a perfect blend of indoor and outdoor activities to suit your tastes. If you are into art and culture, summer is a good time to indulge yourself, with many concerts and art shows around the state. In June, you can attend the BluesFest, while August hosts Elvis Week.

Fall brings with it a beauty of its own, with colorful leaves and pumpkins, bonfires and cider. the Summertown BlueGrass Festival and the Sevierville County Fair are both held during fall. Winter in Tennessee is full of sparkling lights. Besides, there are parades and festivities like the Jackson Christmas Parade and Smoky Mountain Winterfest to celebrate the season.

There are many historical sites in Tennessee that the state does a lot to preserve. Battles were fought at Davis Bridge and Five Points. The “As The River Flows” River Center Exhibit shows the settlement of Clarksville in the 18 Century. The Abraham Lincoln Library and Museum in Harrogate has a great collection of Lincoln and Civil War artifacts.

Tennessee has a good network of highways. At Memphis, you will also get “The City of New Orleans”, an Amtrak train running between Chicago and New Orleans. There are international airports at Nashville and Memphis.
