Popular Food Trends in US
A number of popular food trends have developed in the US, over the years, largely due to the ever increasing consciousness among US citizens regarding their health in the post-retirement years. An overview of the major food trends in the US are discussed below.
Authenticity
Authenticity is a growing factor in decision-making as people choose the foods they eat. Eating has traditionally been associated with strong social and cultural links. Increasingly, even for the "on the go" eating population, eating is not considered merely a way to fuel the body. Authenticity, as it supports the overall experience as well as the health of consumers, is increasingly important. Authenticity may mean a variety of things to different people – including, for example, foods that contain a short list of ingredients, particularly natural ingredients; consumers, especially in California, are becoming more aware of the lengthy, unpronounceable, and indecipherable list of ingredients in many processed foods. Authentic, recognizable food ingredients like flour or water are in demand.
Go Organic
Food fads come and go, and generally promote quick methods of weight loss, which are not always healthy. Food trends on the other hand reflect the preferences of the customer and indicate the choices that people are making while they choose their food. Of late, buying organic food stuff has become one of the popular food trends in US. Organic food is grown and processed in a way that minimizes the use of pesticides, herbicides and other chemicals used in traditional farming. According to the USDA's Economic Research Service, the sales of organic food have risen more than 20 percent per year since the 1990's. These foods include produce, grains, meat, dairy, eggs and processed food products. The organic food trend is here to stay, as many people are going back to eating food grown in the way nature intended it to.
