Origin of Ayurveda
This system of medicine originated somewhere in India, nearly 5000 years ago. Mention should be made of the ancient texts of "Charak Samhita" and "Sushruta Samhita," that carried the first documented records of Ayurveda. Both these texts were written sometime in 1000 BC. Both the texts are strongly inspired by the teachings in the Vedas (ancient Indian texts).



What is Ayurveda?


The word "Ayurveda" is a Sanskrit word that means the "Science of Life." "Ayu" stands for life and "Veda" stands for science. Ayurveda makes use of natural elements to heal the ailments of the mind and the body. Ayurvedic treatment is based on establishing a balance of the mind, spirit and body. Anything that disturbs the balance is the cause of a person's ailments. Maintaining the balance between body, mind and spirit, to ensure a long and healthy life is the main aim of Ayurveda.
